O Hooverphonic foi formado em 1995 pelo trio belga Alex Callier, Frank Duchêne e Liesje Sadonius. Inicialmente foi chamada de Hoover, e foi amplamente influenciado pelo Trip Hop e pela música eletrônica que explodiu na década de 90 na Europa.
Entre as principais influências do Hooverphonic estão outras duas bandas estouradas no cenário alternativo: Massive Attack e Portishead. Em 1998, o grupo trocou sua voz, e a nova cara da banda passou a ser a exótica Geike Arnaert que aparece na foto acima.
Depois que a música 2wicky entrou na trilha sonora do longa “Beleza Roubada”, de Bernardo Bertolucci, a banda estourou de vez.
A partir de então, as composições dos belgas tornaram-se trilhas sonoras frenquentes de séries de TV como CSI: Crime Scene Investigation e Cold Case, além de figurar nas soundtracks de outros filmes e programas de televisão.
Porém em 2008 a Vocalista Geike deixou a banda, que até hoje continua em busca de uma nova vocalista. Mas ainda sim,vale a pena curtir o som deles.
